Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is by far the most prevalent greenhouse gas, with fossil fuel combustion accounting for more than 90% of C02 emissions in the United States. The transportation sector accounts for one-third of this volume and its emissions increased 29% overall from 1990 to 2004, with the freight source component growing more than twice as fast. Overall CO2 emissions in this sector are projected to continue to rise.

How TransNeutral "Greens" Your Shipments

TransNeutral is an opt-in program that enables you to "green' your shipments and make a positive difference for the environment with every pound you ship domestically. First, we use a weight-based calculation to determine the amount of CO2 that your shipment emits, then we help offset that CO2 by contributing to Emission Reduction programs through the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX).

Through stringent oversight and auditing, these projects accumulate exchangeable carbon credits, based on the amount of GHG's they reduce or prevent. These credits are then sold on the CCX in the form of "Carbon Financial Instruments". Representing the amount of CO2 that was removed, or prevented from entering into the atmosphere.

TransNeutral, through its partnership with DriveNeutral.org (an affiliate of the San Francisco-based Presidio School of Management - a CCX member), 'greens' your shipments by purchasing CFIs to offset the CO2 that the shipments produce. You can even monitor those offsets by receiving TransNeutral Greening Reports that detail your results.
